Leslie Carrio, following her father and grandfather, became president and majority owner of the business in 2009.

“This award is a great honor as one of the many multi-generational families proudly carrying on the best traditions in our industry while continually advancing the trade through innovative practices,” said Mrs. Carrio. Founded in 1890 as the DePaoli Mosaic Association, the company celebrated the 100th anniversary of its incorporation this year.

Specializing in commercial and institutional projects, DePaoli has installed terrazzo in numerous historic structures and regional landmarks, including Faneuil Hall, Hatch Memorial Shell, Logan Airport, Harvard University, MIT, TD Garden, Fenway Park, and Symphony Hall.

DePaoli has been a member of the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association (NTMA) since 1926. In 2012, Mrs. Carrio became the first woman elected to the trade association’s board of directors. She was named board Vice President on May 1, 2019, at the association’s annual convention in Amelia Island, Fla. Her father, Fred Morgan, served as president of NTMA from 1995 to 1997.

In the past ten years under Mrs. Carrio’s leadership, DePaoli has increased its sales by over 500 percent, tripling its net worth. In the last fiscal year, sales surpassed $9 million, with over 250,000 square feet of terrazzo installed throughout the region.

Mrs. Carrio was honored at the annual SCORE Boston / Small Business Administration awards luncheon along with other winners at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., on May 8.
