This iconic lobby is a designated New York City landmark. A masterpiece of mid-century modernism, it opened in 1959, and was designed by Rockefeller Center architect Michael Harris. The iconic Eames Time-Life chairs were created for this classic interior.  During renovations, the original Venetian sand-cushion terrazzo floor was removed and a duplicate new floor was installed. Plywood templates were made to recreate the serpentine design, inspired by the sidewalks of Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach.  The terrazzo design continues from the main lobby into the elevators.
