Terrazzo Design Ideas for Government BuildingsGovernment buildings are designed to last for many decades, and terrazzo is one of the only flooring finishes that can last the life of a building. As sustainability becomes increasingly important to public works projects, terrazzo can play a key part in creating environmentally responsible buildings. The terrazzo matrix can contain recycled glass, recycled plastic, recycled aluminum strip, and possibly other recycled aggregates. The 40-50 year life cycle of terrazzo results in the lowest life cycle cost of any flooring finish, provides years of uninterrupted service resulting in minimum repair and replacement costs, and does not contribute to waste directed to landfills. Combining these benefits allows terrazzo to contribute to LEED Certification of government buildings.
