Standard plates are classified as those Terrazzo formula containing #1 and #2 chips. These plates are most frequently used and are usually readily available in all areas. The standard plates are the normal Terrazzo topping used in Sand Cushion Terrazzo, Bonded or Strip Terrazzo, Monolithic Terrazzo, Structural Terrazzo and several other types of Portland Cement Terrazzo contained in the National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association Specifications, Details and Technical Data.

Special effects are often created in Terrazzo by those who wish to custom design a specific pattern or feature. Floor maps, seals, logos and even unusual shapes and contours can be custom designed for either precasting or on-site application.
